The Noelle’s Gift Foundation has again donated a total of $25,000 to the St. Clair Catholic and Lambton Kent District school boards to support students and families in need for this school year.
The money will go towards students in need.
The Noelle’s Gift charitable fund was established in memory of Noelle Paquette, a former kindergarten teacher with the St. Clair District Catholic school board who died in January 2013.
Lynn Paquette, Noelle's mom, said they've raised close to a million dollars in her daughter's memory.
“We're so thankful for the community. I think it's going to be a lasting legacy,” Paquette said.
Paquette said she has friends who are teachers and is in touch with Noelle's friends who are teachers, and they are excited the fund has no red tape. If funds are needed to help a student, usually it's a quick process. If a teacher wants to go and purchase shoes or school supplies, they have up to $200 to go out and spend on children. For amounts larger than that, usually it just takes a principal making a phone call. Requests are processed quickly, to get help to families as soon as possible.
The $25,000 donation from the Noelle’s Gift charitable fund is shared amongst the two school boards to support students and their families who are in need. The money is used to purchase eyeglasses, clothing, food, medicine and medical equipment – anything that is needed to help children and families in crisis. The funds are dispersed independently through the two school boards.
Paquette said the funds help out with urgent needs in schools.
Noelle's Gift has four major fundraising events throughout the year. There will be a gala in January 2018, a fitness day in May, a golf outing in July and a run in October. Schools also do their own fundraising events.
