12 Year old Marlowe Robinson Finishes Third at Weightlifting Event

Marlowe Robinson, a 12 year old grade 7 student at École Hillcrest in Petrolia entered her first Weightlifting competition on July 8, 2017 and pulled off a third place finish. The event was the Mini Hercules event hosted by the University of Toronto, Mississauga and sanctioned by the Ontario Weightlifting Association. The Mini Hercules event was aimed at boys and girls ages 10 to 12 and was held along side the Young Hercules event for children 13 to 17 years of age.

Marlowe competed in the 44kg category against girls from Toronto and Peterborough. She managed a snatch of 12kg on her second attempt before losing control of 14kg on her third attempt which crashed behind her for a missed lift. She came back strong in the clean and jerk making all three attempts. Her final lift of 25kg established a personal record and resulted in a combined total of 37kg which was also a personal record.

Marlowe trains at We Are Fitness in Point Edward where she’s begun working hard again towards her next event, the Ontario Junior Championships. The Junior event will be held at Variety Village in Scarborough and is for weightlifters 20 years of age and younger.
